Shop the Aisle bridal nightgown, a floor-length white satin slip gown with a lace bodice, adjustable straps and a low open back.
Almost every part of a wedding gets a second look. The nightgown usually gets bought in the last week, in a hurry, and it shows in the photographs. This one is made to survive that scrutiny.
A lace panel runs across the bust and into a soft V neckline, seamed under the cup so the shape holds without boning. Thin straps adjust at the back — worth setting properly, because on a bias-cut satin gown the strap length is what decides whether the neckline sits flat or gapes.
The back drops into a low open scoop. There is no fastening: the gown pulls on over the head and the straps carry it. That openness is the reason this gown photographs the way it does, and also the reason it needs no bra — a band would sit above the neckline.
Long, lean and floor-skimming. The satin is cut to fall close through the hip rather than flare, so it moves as a column. It is unlined, which is the honest thing to say about most satin nightgowns at this weight — under strong light it is not opaque.
Satin slip gowns follow the hip exactly. Take your hip measurement, not your dress size, and size up if you are between — satin shows every pull line, and a gown that is slightly loose falls better than one that is slightly tight. The length is cut for a taller frame; plan on a hem if you are under about five foot four and do not intend to wear heels with it.
White satin marks. Makeup on the neckline, tan lotion at the shoulder and perfume sprayed after dressing all leave a stain that does not fully lift. Dress last, spray first, and blot rather than rub. Store it hanging on a padded hanger — a satin gown folded in a drawer for a month comes out with creases that only steam removes.
